The anticipation for Grand Theft Auto 6 rises as rapper 50 Cent drops hints about a possible cameo in the game. There has been radio silence from Rockstar Games regarding Grand Theft Auto 6 since the infamous leaks of last year.
Following the success of Grand Theft Auto 5 and its subsequent online multiplayer mode, fans have been eagerly anticipating the next installment ever since its 2013 release. Despite numerous re-releases of GTA 5 on updated platforms and numerous updates to Grand Theft Auto Online, Rockstar Games has been surprisingly tight-lipped about what to expect from Grand Theft Auto 6.
It stayed that way until September 2022, when a massive leak occurred and one channel suddenly uploaded over 20 leaked videos of GTA 6 gameplay, revealing a significant amount of in-game content. Both Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive were rattled by this leak, but nothing new has happened since then.
That might be about to change, though, as the gaming community eagerly awaits news of GTA 6. Today, rapper 50 Cent posted a picture of a colorful logo on Instagram that reads “Vice City” in the same font as the logo of Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, whose setting is widely believed to be the setting of Grand Theft Auto 6. In the caption, 50 Cent wrote, “I will explain this later,” which suggests that not only is something related to Grand Theft Auto possibly coming out soon but that 50 Cent is going to be involved in it.

There has been no official word on when Grand Theft Auto 6 will be made available. Not even the Rockstar employees Jason Schreier spoke with for his popular article on the game were able to comment.
Industry analysts expect the next Grand Theft Auto to be released sometime in Take-2024 Two’s fiscal year, which runs from April 2023 through March 2024, but developers are skeptical, according to a Bloomberg article.
Microsoft’s response to the UK Competition and Markets Authority investigation into its acquisition of Activision Blizzard read, “The highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released in 2024.”
GamesRadar has spotted a new rumor that suggests the final stages of Grand Theft Auto 6 development are underway: polishing. If the information in the tweet below is accurate, that is.
This would corroborate Microsoft’s claim above, as polishing a game can still take a year or more (especially one as large as GTA 6).
Role Playing Grand Theft Auto 6
The lack of official gameplay details from Rockstar leaves us with little to go on at this time. From what we can tell from the early development footage released this year, Rockstar is indeed experimenting with some new mechanics for GTA 6 at this time. A new stealth system appears to be included, and robberies and heists appear to be the game’s main focus.
The leaked (and since deleted) footage shows gameplay that is very similar to GTA 5, with some new features like the ability to go prone. Of course, this is obviously very early in development, so we have no idea how GTA 6 will actually play.
Currently, it seems reasonable to assume that Grand Theft Auto 6 will continue the series’ tradition of using a third-person perspective for its action sequences.
The specifics of the game’s mechanics, like character switching, multiplayer support, and how players can influence the environment, remain unknown. The assets that were leaked were very early in the development process, so our understanding of GTA 6’s gameplay is limited.

We are confident in saying that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be playable on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox One Series X/S, but whether or not it will be available on the PS4 and Xbox One is still up in the air. In all likelihood, by the time GTA 6 is released, those older consoles will have long since become obsolete.
We anticipate a Grand Theft Auto 6 PC release as well, but it is unclear if the game will be ported to Nintendo’s Switch console.
The previous installment, Grand Theft Auto 5, has not been released on the system, despite the Definitive Edition trilogy bundle having done so. As more information becomes available, we’ll make sure you’re aware of it.
