Season 3 of “Barry” was canceled before filming even began in the spring of 2020, at the start of the pandemic. Yet, that downtime would soon be put to good use by co-creators Bill Hader and Alec Berg and the rest of the writing staff on the bleak HBO comedy.
As filming for the third season of “Barry” had not yet begun, the writers went back and rewrote the previous season.
While writing Season 4, Hader and Berg came to the realization that “a very clear ending presented itself,” as Hader explained in an interview with Variety last week. ‘Barry’s’ eighth and final season will premiere on April 16, and Variety has the exclusive premiere date, first teaser, and first look.
Hader’s character, Barry Berkman, an Ohio native who comes to Los Angeles for a hit, but finds community and redemption in an acting class, is shown in prison after the events of the Season 3 finale, thanks to his former teacher Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler).
Is Season 4 The Final One Of Barry?
I know this will disappoint Barry fans, but the answer is yes. The upcoming fourth season will be the last one.
‘There are still so many questions with the other characters and with Barry, and [there are] so many things left unsaid, at least in my opinion,’ she said.
Season 4’s events are “structurally radical” in some ways, but “made sense” for what Hader believes the characters “needed to go through” and what he believes the show is “always kind of headed towards,” as he explained to Variety.
You see, we could just make up a story and pad a lot of stuff. However, moving forward, Season 4 will be the final season.
