Like any respectable isekai anime, it opens in a charming little fantasy world. There are just young heroes out there seeking treasure and no terrifying monsters to be found. A gang of teenagers enters a cave in the premiere episode to save several people from a group of goblins.
Easily done! True, the cave is home to nothing but goblins. It’s good knowledge that goblins are easy to defeat at level 1. A non-player character could possibly even hold their own against a couple of them. Surely, the children have nothing to worry about.
The goblins in Goblin Slayer are revealed to be scheming demon children hellbent on murder and… sexual abuse. Most of the young adventurers do perish in the dungeon, and one poor girl is nearly attacked by goblins before being rescued by the hero with the catchy moniker.
Following his usual practice, the Goblin Slayer explores further into the cave and encounters young goblins. Literal infants. As for his actions, well. And he kills them, too. The tone of this show is much more sinister than it should be. Most unsettling performances have an insatiable audience craving more.
