Is Amazon Prime Waiting To Announce Season 3 Of Carnival Row?

Even the most dedicated television viewers can be forgiven for failing to recall the Prime Video original series Carnival Row from the summer of 2019.

The show, which premiered on the streaming service and imagined a complex fantasy world eerily similar to our own, was arguably the most ambitious project at the time.

Orlando Bloom plays Inspector Rycroft Philostrate, tasked with investigating a series of brutal murders in the Victorian-style city of The Burgue, where the majority human population harbors strong prejudices against faun and fairy refugees.

Season 2 of Carnival Row, which is being marketed as the series finale, premieres this month on Prime Video, after a three-and-a-half-year wait during which time Erik Oleson of Daredevil took over from showrunners Beacham and Guggenheim.

In an exclusive interview with RadioTimes.com, Bloom acknowledged that “there were a lot of changes at the top of the food chain” during production, describing that process as “above my pay grade”.

Season 3 Of Carnival Row Premiere Date TBA

Those who have been following Carnival Row’s success so far can’t wait for the next season to air. Season 3 of Carnival Row will not have a release date announced until it is officially confirmed.

The Third Season Of Carnival Row On Prime Video?

If you were hoping for more of the Carnival Row story, I’m afraid you’ll be disappointed. Fans were caught off guard when Prime Video began advertising the second season as the “series finale,” implying that the drama had been canceled.

Bloom told Radio Times that the series’ cancellation is due in large part to the challenges of filming during the pandemic. The filming of Season 2 began in November 2019 and was halted in March 2020, just four months into its production.

The actor did hear good news, though: the crew realized they had enough material to give the story a satisfying conclusion. That’s why we’ve gotten to this point now.

Why Has Production On Season 3 Of Carnival Row Stopped Already?

In August of this year (2019), when Prime Video finally added Carnival Row, the critical response was largely indifferent. Its 57% score on Rotten Tomatoes reflects the consensus of critics who acknowledged the obvious effort and expense that went into creating this steampunk-inspired world but still found fault with it for being more flash than substance.

Fans responded positively, but the team still had their work cut out for them if they wanted Carnival Row to be a sustainable business.

A full month before the premiere of the first eight episodes, Prime Video announced that there would be a second season.

When it did come out, however, the series had mixed reviews. FlixPatrol, an aggregator, reports that the show was in the Top 10 on Prime Video for an entire month in the United States, but only one day in the United Kingdom. The show lasted an impressive 362 consecutive days in the top 10 in the Czech Republic, where it is filmed.
