Many people have come forward over the years to accuse John Travolta of being gay or, even worse, of sexually harassing them.
The actor’s reputation was in tatters after the legal battle and media scandal that followed his alleged involvement with private masseurs and porn stars, as well as members of his ship’s crew and his own company’s staff. These homosexual rumors have persisted for nearly the entirety of the actor’s career.
A former senior member of the Church of Scientology named Mike Rinder revived the rumors in September 2022 when he claimed to have seen John Travolta kissing a male masseur.
He further claimed he was tasked with putting an end to the controversy over Travolta’s sexual life so as not to tarnish the Church’s image.
Although a Church of Scientology representative has since denied these claims, they were brought to light in Rinder’s memoir, “A Billion Years: My Escape from a Life in the Highest Ranks of Scientology,” reigniting the question of whether or not John Travolta is gay.
Is John Travolta Gay?
John Travolta has publicly refuted claims that he is gay. The “Pulp Fiction” actor said that rumors that he is gay are just an attempt to extort money from him, calling this a “celebrity’s Achilles heel,” in one of his interviews. The mascot let slip:
He elaborated on the reasons such accusations against him were successful. Travolta said it was because, like most celebrities, he was unwilling to aggressively attack the rumors, which allowed them to grow out of control.
While the public will continue to speculate about John Travolta’s sexuality as long as the rumors persist, the actor’s denial of any involvement in the gay sex allegations speaks volumes.
John Travolta’s History Of Gay Affairs
Since the 1990s, the actor has been plagued by scandals stemming from gay rumors. Not that this proves John Travolta isn’t gay, but it’s still a stretch.
Most previous gay scandals were resolved when conflicting statements were made by witnesses. Two masseurs, one in Beverly Hills and one in Atlanta sued the celebrity in 2012 for sexual battery, alleging that the actor had inappropriately touched him.
Evidence presented in court revealed that at the time of the alleged Beverly Hills assault, the celebrity in question was actually filming in New York. Both lawsuits ended up being dropped.
In addition, he had an encounter with ex-Royal Caribbean employee Fabian Zanzi. The worker claimed that he had inappropriately touched him while he was naked on a ship in 2009.
In the end, all parties involved signed documents collectively dismissing the lawsuit. Then there’s Douglas Gotterba, an ex-Alto pilot who claims he and Travolta were together for years in the ’80s.
He also implied that he would publish a tell-all book about his life, including his sexual exploits. Travolta’s legal team tried in vain to stop him from disclosing his “confidential” story. Finally, the judge ruled in Gotterba’s favor, allowing him to share his supposedly explosive truth in court.
John Travolta’s Sexuality, According To His Past Relationships
John Travolta has not been seen in any openly same-sex relationships, despite widespread rumors to the contrary.
He has been romantically linked to such Hollywood A-listers as Anita Gilette, Diana Hyland, Brooke Shields, Catherine Deneuve, and Kelly Preston.
In 1976, John Travolta started dating Diana Hyland, who was 18 years older than him. After working together in his first TV movie, “The Boy in the Plastic Bag,” as mother and son, they became fast friends.
The two quickly tied the knot, and they lived happily married until Hyland’s untimely death from breast cancer in 1977. By 1980, he had moved on to Catherine Deneuve, a French actress.
Travolta was rumored to be dating a teenage Brooke Shield in 1981. Nonetheless, because of the fabricated age difference, it appears that their relationship remained purely platonic. It would appear that he dated Henner before moving on to Kelly Preston.
John Travolta was also rumored to have had a relationship with his “Grease” co-star Olivia Newton-John, in addition to the women listed above. However, it has been made clear that the two never dated, despite admitting that they had the kind of chemistry that kept their friendship going strong all the way up until Newton’s death.
John is a well-known actor in the United States. In 1975, he first gained widespread attention thanks to his performance in The Devil’s Rain. Several other films and TV shows have featured him since then. Look Who’s Talking, Pulp Fiction, Get Shorty, Primary Colors, Arrow, and Phenomenon are just a few of the films in which he has acted.
