Noah Schnapp, Who Plays Dustin In Stranger Things, Has Come Out As Gay!

‘Stranger Things actor Noah Schnapp is gay, just like his character, gay teen Will Byers. On Thursday, the 18-year-old actor posted a video to his TikTok account in which he said, “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know

” Schnapp was lip-syncing to an audio clip from another TikTok in which someone said, “You know what it never was? That severe. Things never got that bad. I will never get that serious, honest to God. I guess I’m more similar to Will than I thought,” Schnapp wrote as the caption to his TikTok video.

Schnapp first confirmed to Variety that Will Byers is gay and in love with his best friend Mike in July, after the premiere of the final two episodes of the fourth season of “Stranger Things” (Finn Wolfhard).

It seemed to be there, but you never quite figured out what it was; is he just maturing more leisurely than his peers? Schnapp declared. They made it a real and obvious thing now that he’s older. Now it’s undeniable that he’s gay and has feelings for Mike.

Even from the pilot of “Stranger Things,” Schnapp avoided answering direct questions about Will’s sexuality, saying instead that Will was “up to the audience’s interpretation.” Schnapp told Variety in July that he didn’t know what Matt and Ross Duffer had planned for Will, and that once he did, he didn’t want to give anything away about Will’s arc in Season 4.

That Will Byers is gay and in love with his best friend, Mike was first revealed by Schnapp to Variety in July (Finn Wolfhard). He had previously confirmed the news after the fourth season’s final two episodes had aired.

“It was always there, but you never really knew; is it just him maturing at a more leisurely pace than his peers?” As Schnapp put it. As he has matured, they have made it a concrete, undeniable fact. At this point, there can be no doubt that he is gay and has feelings for Mike.

You can watch the video in question here; in it, Schnapp can be seen lip-syncing to the words of another person who is heard saying, “What do you mean it was never? That severe. Things never got that bad. Honestly, it’ll never come to that.” Schnapp revealed that Will was gay around the time that Season 4 of Stranger Things was set to premiere in 2022.

“The first season dropped hints about it. It seemed to be there, but it was hard to tell; is he simply maturing at a more leisurely pace than his peers? Now that he’s older, they’ve made it a concrete, undeniable reality. He’s gay and has feelings for Mike, it’s crystal clear now,” Schnapp said.

Though the third season of Stranger Things featured the scene that came closest to confirming Will’s sexuality, the fourth season featured a very moving scene, wonderfully acted by Schnapp, in which Will explained to Mike Eleven’s feelings, which happened to mirror his own.

Schnapp said many people have approached him to thank him for bringing Will’s reaction to his speech (in which he turns away and quietly cries) to life.

“People have approached me, saying things like, “This Will character made me feel so good. And I could identify with that so much. Yes, you just described me as a kid. Hearing that filled me with joy. That’s a real person, a real story, and a real fight, and they write it so well.
