Super Eagles Of Nigeria Hope To Get Their 2023 Campaign Off To A Good Start With A Win Over Guinea
Missing out on the Qatar 2022 World Cup was a low point for Nigeria’s Super Eagles last year. Since that disheartening episode, the Super Eagles have been unable to find their footing, and their recent losses to Costa Rica and Portugal demonstrated that they still have further to go before they can reach their former heights.
Nigerians have reacted to the Super Eagles’ shocking 1-0 loss to Guinea-Bissau by suggesting they “go to court” if they are unhappy with the result. The Djurtus of Guinea-Bissau held on to a goal scored in the 29th minute to beat Nigeria 1-0 and take first place in Group A.
When A New Nigerian Call-Up Revealed His Actual Age, Some Of The Super Eagles Appeared Surprised
This week, at his national team initiation, Chijoke Aniagboso, a recent call-up for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, revealed his true age, and some of his teammates appeared shocked. The young goalkeeper stood up in front of his new teammates before they sang the initiation song to formally join the team.
Some of his senior coworkers seemed skeptical of the stopper’s claim that he was still a teenager. The keeper stood in front of the team with a bottle of water in his hand for a microphone and introduced himself, saying, “My name is Chijoke Aniagboso, and I’m 18 years old.”
Many of his teammates, watching on in shock, asked, “You are what?” after the keeper told them his age, seemingly thinking he was Francis Uzoho, one of the other goalkeepers on the team.
Upon repeating his age, Aniagboso was met with chortles of disbelief and laughter from his teammates, who didn’t seem to fully believe the goalkeeper’s claims that he is only 18.
The camera then cuts to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, who looks shocked and disbelieving that Aniagboso is so young for someone with such a towering presence.
The goalkeeper, making his debut with the senior squad after a successful career with Nigeria’s youth national team, is no stranger to success. With the Eagles’ U-20 squad, he won the 2022 Wafu B Cup and represented the country at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. He also played for the national team at the U-17 and U-20 levels.
The Pathetic And Tragic Tale Of The SUPER EAGLES Of Nigeria Versus Guinea-Bissau
When the Super Eagles last competed, they made a decisive, merciless mark in history. The Nigeria senior men’s national team set a new record for the largest margin of victory in a game with a 10-0 thrashing of Sao Tome. Many players also improved their goal-scoring records on the international stage.
The motivation and outlook were far more satisfying than the end result since there wasn’t much to gain from total destruction. There was a sense of a young team, born of new impetus, spreading its wings and seeking to make a statement, in contrast to the Super Eagles’ previous reliability in dispatching cannon fodder in the most boring manner possible. Having fun with it.
But there is a noticeable lack of excitement in the lead-up to Friday’s match against Guinea-Bissau. The 60,000-person capacity of Abuja’s national stadium is unlikely to be reached on the day of the match, as many Nigerians are unaware that the Super Eagles will be playing either Friday or Sunday. This is despite the fact that Nigerian players regularly make headlines across Europe.
StarTimes World Football will air live coverage of Nigeria and Guinea-2023 Bissau’s AFCON Qualifying match on Friday at 5 pm.
