Selena Gomez, an American singer, and actress have spoken publicly about her struggles with depression and lupus. She told Rolling Stone for their cover story that she started hearing voices and had psychosis in 2018.
Soon after, the 30-year-old was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and the doctors prescribed her several medications to determine what would work for her. In spite of this, she experienced serious side effects from these drugs.
Gomez described the effects of the medications as making her feel “like there was no part of her that was there anymore,” and she felt like she “was gone.”
Thanks to the help of her new psychiatrist, Selena Gomez is feeling better than she has in a long time. The star of Another Cinderella Story revealed that she had to “detox” from her medications and practice recalling forgotten vocabulary in order to regain her fluency in speech.
She elaborated by saying that it took a lot of effort to accept that she was bipolar and to learn how to deal with it “because it wasn’t going to go away.”
